Some of their players in their early years, including Seán Rice, the doyen of these pages, played with Breaffy because they couldn’t get football with Castlebar. Set up in the shadow of parish rivals Castlebar Mitchels, who were to go on to win five Mayo SFC titles in a row later that year, Breaffy’s aims had to be modest by comparison.
